A Computing Christmas

LO:  To understand and apply a variable

Outcome: You can create a basic Scratch game with a working variable

Starter:

How can using a variable in gaming provide more challenge for the player?

Main 1

  1. Open this online version of Scratch:  https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/31876/
  2. Create a new Game.
  3. Apply a Christmas background and Sprite

Main 2 Programing.

What does the code in this picture do?

  1. Copy the code, applied to your Christmas Sprite.
  2. For added challenge - how could you create your own code to do something similar.

Code not working?  Ask a friend to test it for you.

Main 3 - Applying a variable

What variable could be applied to make the game more interactive and challenging for the player?
Create a variable called Points or Score (or something similar).  The picture below will help.
What does the programming on the fish do?
When and when can't you apply the variable to the main character?

Challenge: Create and apply your own variable

Plenary - Play a friend's game.  Ask them to feedback to you how playable it was and what you could do to make it harder for a more expert game player.  What would you do if you had more time?
