8y1 Fonts, colour scheme and videos

To apply appropriate fonts and a colour scheme to your website
To appreciate the impact of video

Outcomes - you have discussed, chosen, applied and tested appropriate font, colour and video.

(this is the last lesson of skills building, over  the next few lessons you will be developing your website independently using the skills we've learnt over the last month or so, whilst testing, acting on feedback and completing a test log and keeping your assets table up to date - this will help us get to our level 6s and level 7s)

Starter - discuss in your groups - who's your target audience, what's the purpose of your website? Therefore, which fonts and colours are appropriate.

Main 1

  • Manage Sites
  • Open your template .dwt file
  • Ensure that you click on CSS (not html) at the bottom
  • Change fonts to your chosen style and colour
  • Change backgrounds to chosen colour
  • Save all and your links should update.
  • TEST - open your pages.

Main 2

  • Embedding a video from Youtube.
  • Find a video you'd like to use on youtube.  Open up the embed code, copy and paste the code to where you want the video to appear
  • Can you change the size of your video screen using the code.  View it in iExplore

Main 3

  • Embed your own video
  • Open it from Premiere Pro, render it (press enter) and export it as a .avi file. Remember it must go in your Sites, Year 8 folder.
  • Insert the .avi file to a relevant place in your website.  Insert Media, Plug in.

This google PowerPoint may help with some features you'd like to include - example, applets, linking pages, links to external emails and websites.  It was used for year 10 real life GCSE preparation.  Not all pages are appropriate so scroll through.

Plenary

Test - get feedback from a partner. Have you applied appropriate font and colours, have you chosen and embedded an appropriate video.

Homework - complete this google form to plan your next 4 lessons - this needs to be done by next lesson - Friday 13th.

It will help you plan your lesson time so that you can develop your web site independently.  You will also need to come to a clinic or two in order to make the most of your time.
It should include some time testing your website, acting on feedback and getting your assets table up to date.
